Afgelopen donderdag speelde Voorburg 2 een uit wedstrijd tegen Botwinnik 3. Na twee verlies partijen was Voorburg er op gebrand om te winnen! Zoals ondertussen gewoonte in ons team beschrijven alle spelers de eigen partij.

Tja. Op Bord 3 tref ik een 1650 speler die mijn Reti behendig naar een remise stelling schuift. Ik heb het loperpaar, maar de stelling zit dicht en ik zie de voortzetting niet. Zijn tweede remiseaanbod accepteer ik.

My game started with the Polish opening 1. b4 e5 2. Bb2 Bxb4 3. Bxe5. Nf6 … Next, White developed cautiously without playing for the thematic c4 break; Black short castled and the game reached a balanced position. In the early middlegame, some inaccuracies of both sides on the queenside led to two piece exchanges in Black’s favour. Finally Black takes control of the game preventing the c4 pawn break with b5 and maneuvering the knights and the queen on the kingside with the aim to exchange one set of knights and reach an endgame with dominant knight versus bad dark-squared bishop. Under strategic pressure, White decides to accept such an endgame, but looses a pawn in the process after a knight fork on d2. The endgame is strategically won for Black, especially after exchanging rooks to create an unstoppable passed pawn on the h file. White is left with 10 seconds left on the clock and understandably decides to resign.

We speelden een interessante Ruy Lopez. Na Kg7 heb ik een halfuur nagedacht of ik een paard met schaak kon offeren, maar niet gedaan. De volgende zet remise geaccepteerd.

I threw it away. Won an important pawn due to a pin, was better; but thought my rook could stay attacked as I was treatening mate, but the mating square was covered by his knight. Very silly mistake.

Bij mij was het veel positioneel geschuif, maar wel complex met allerlei penningen. Eentje zag mijn tegenstander over het hoofd, dat koste hem een toren waarna het bijna direct game over was.
